Auyuittuq National Park Climate Hazards and Outburst Flood Research (ANCHOR) - Project

The ANCHOR project is a partnership between the University of Manitoba, University of Ottawa, Parks Canada, and community members in Qikiqtarjuaq and Pangnirtung, to understand extreme weather and flooding risks in the Auyuittuq National Park region. The steep topography and spotty observational record of this area make it an area of low confidence and high uncertainty for regional climate signals and extremes. Moreover, as the Arctic warms, the region is experiencing many changes, including glacier retreat, lake evolution, and an increase in heavy rain events. Locals with deep knowledge of the land are adapting to new patterns, while visitors may not understand the dangers associated with weather and flood hazards.
