The Lake Manitoba Mooring is composed of an aluminium pole with multiple instruments attached. Instruments typically include an ecotriplet fluorescence sensor, a conductivity/temperature sensor, as of 2019 an oxygen sensor and during the open water season a photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) sensor. An orange float is attached to the top of the pole, and the instruments are attached underneath the pole using cable clamps and various other supports. Length from the underside of the float to each instrument is recorded. At the other end of the pole, two steel tire rims are attached with chains.

Attached to the top of the pole (float end) is a 100 m line with a small yellow float. When deployed, the yellow float is the only identifier of the mooring that shows at the water surface.
