This dataset was created to investigates changes in extreme daily precipitation in the Greenland-Baffin Bay region and its impacts on the surface mass balance of glaciers and ice sheets using a combination the ERA5 atmospheric reanalysis (fifth version of the ECMWF Atmospheric Reanalysis) and variable-resolution CESM regional climate model (VR-CESM). The dataset includes extreme precipitation statistics from ERA5 and VR-CESM used in Loeb et al. (2024; DOI: 10.1029/2024JD041375) and connections to SMB and related variables from VR-CESM presented in Loeb et al. (in review; DOI: 10.5194/egusphere-2025-995). The VR-CESM data include an historical (1980-1998) simulation and future (2080-2098, under SSP5-8.5) simulation. This dataset is was produced as part of Nicole Loeb's Ph.D. work under the supervision of Dr. Alex Crawford and Dr. Julienne Stroeve.
