Description

DIRECTORS REPORT 1976 INTRODUCTION For most of us, 1976 will be remembered as "the year of the flood 11 • On April 12 the Station became cut off by flood waters overspilling the west dyke of the Assiniboine diversion. From then until May 18th our only link with the outside world was by boat and canoe. People, equipment, supplies, drinking water and garbage all had to be transferred at least three times on their journey to and from the Station. Flood levels rose 4.56 ft. above datum completely inundating the barn and Bell house. Fortunately sand bag dykes and continuous pumping kept water from entering Mallard Lodge, Wardle, Criddle, Agassiz, Murrays and other buildings.

DI RECTORS REPORT 1977 INTRODUCTION An important event this year was the establishirent of a Resident Biologist position, initially for an eleven month period. We were very happy to wel coire Marianne See and her husband Jerry Tande to the Field Station in June. As can be seen in subsequent sections of this report they have played a constructive role at the Field Station. We are presently seeking funds from outside sources to provide long term support for a position of this nature.

DIRECTOR'S REPORT, 1979 Dr. T. Booth STAFFING This year Dr. J.M. Shay went on sabbatical leave and I filled in during the Director's leave in an acting capacity. Having learned a fair deal about our Delta Marsh Field Station I am fortunate to have been involved. It is not without some relief that I will place the Directorship of the station back into Dr. Shay's capable hands. I hope that the 'house' is in sufficient order to a 11 ow our Di rector to continue the tradition and daily life activities of Delta Marsh Field Station.
