The research was to include at least three components: a)\r\ndistribution and abundance of eelgrass; b) oceanographic conditions of the coastal region of Eeyou\r\nIstchee, and c) Cree traditional land use and knowledge of eelgrass and geese. The research was to be\r\noverseen by a Steering Committee consisting of representatives of the coastal Cree First Nations of\r\nChisasibi, Wemindji, Eastmain, and Waskaganish; Niskamoon Corporation, Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec, and other\r\ninvited specialists such as the Canadian Wildlife Service. The comprehensive research program came to\r\nbe called the Eeyou Coastal Habitat Comprehensive Research Project (CHCRP).
