The IPY-CFL field campaign took place over the winter during 2007 and 2008 in the Amundsen Gulf. The primary field research platform was the CCGS Amundsen. This is the first time that a research icebreaker was mobile and overwintered in the northern hemisphere circumpolar flaw lead.
